Just the Beginning
Thanks to Malanie for this excellent article
Adamari Lopez confirmed that, despite being in several
telenovelas one after the other, her career as an
actress is just getting started, and she doesn't
believe that working non-stop can be bad for her
image.
After a brief rest, Adamari Lopez returns to the small
screen with "Ofelia", a character that will cause much
to talk about with each episode of "Amigas y Rivales"
(Friends and Rivals). Yes, the Puerto Rican is
working again just 6 months after having finished
taping the end of "Locura de Amor", something that
very well could be a risk as being seen too often
could be bad for her image. Well, not really. She
prefers not to think about such a possibility because
she feels that, on the contrary, it will help her get
better known in all corners of the country.
"When I came to Mexico I was in the telenovela, "Sin
Ti", then after "Camila" I took almost a year off ,
then I started shooting "Locura de Amor" and then a
month after that was over I accepted this new role,"
she comments.
"The opportunity to stay in this country and to show
off what I can do as an actress to the Mexican public
is very important and for that reason I don't think
participating in projects one after the other is going
to cause an over kill on my image," she added.
Seated in a small yard in front of Studio Stage 11 of
Televisa San Angel, Adamari accepted our invitation to
speak with FRONTERA after she was finished shooting
some scenes of the new series produced by Emilio
Larrosa. In the minutes that the interview took
place, the actress assured that still a lot of people
do not know who she is nor do they know about the work
that she has done in these past few years. "There are
some that think that my very first telenovelas was
"Locura de Amor." That is why I think I still have a
long time to go before before people get to know me
and even longer before my image has been overused,"
mentioned the boricua (slang term for Puerto Rican)
less than 1.6 meters tall.
After saying goodbye to one of her costars on the new
telenovela, Adamari Lopez expressed her feelings of
happiness of being able to play the part of "Ofelia",
a girl that, due to her activities, is infected with
AIDS.
"Ofelia, who is not HIV positive at first, suffers the
symptoms of the illness and although at frist she
doesn't want to share her experience with people that
surround her, little by little what's happening to her
gets out," she explains.
Q: How did you prepare yourself to give life to this
character?
A: In Puerto Rico I was in positions in some scenes
where AIDS was talked bout and information about the
symptoms and the ways you can get it was discussed.
Even though it happened some years ago, that
information I got helped me a lot to create the
character and of course so did the scene directors:
Salvador Garcini and Jose Angel Garcia."
Q: Have you ever been to a special center's
orientation on this topic?
A: "No, but because I didn't want to, but just
because the rhythm of my work is so intense that I
haven't had enough time to go to organizations like
Conasida or to talk to people infected. I am aware of
the great importance it is to have these types of
confrontations with people infected in order to better
understand how they live and feel, however I just
haven't had the time to do it."
Q: Will the advanced stages of the illness be shown in
the telenovela?
A: "At this point we don't plan to show the advanced
stages, we don't even know if we can or not, it all
depends on how the story goes. The only thing I do
know is that the character will display the first
symptoms of the illness."
Q: What do you think about it all?
A: "Nobody is unable to get this illness. The best
way to keep away from it is abstinence and to find a
stable and faithful partner plus taking the proper
precautions to prevent any type of getting the
illness, like for example, using condoms in each
sexual relationship."
Q: Do you know anyone close to you that has suffered
from the disease?
A: "Not that I know of."
Q: What message do you want to give to the youth with
"Amigas y Rivales"?
A: "That drugs are dangerous and that unsafe sex is
dangerous; that friendships are good, but that you
should pick your friends with caution; that love is
beautiful and that communication between parents and
kids is very important."
